Unveiling Uzès Culinary Gems: Insider Tips for Families and Foodies 🍽️
You might be asking yourself: What are the most charming small towns in France with the best food experience? Look no further than Uzès, a medieval town in southern France brimming with charm, culinary delights and a fabulous weekly market. From pizza to Michelin-starred fine dining at La Table d’Uzès, we’re pleased to share our best restaurants in Uzès.
As a part-time local who’s devoured my way through countless plates here, I’m your guide to unlocking the most delicious restaurants of Uzès. From breakfast to tapas in Uzès’ bustling center to Michelin guide gastronomic experiences in elegant settings, this guide caters to every taste and budget featuring 11 of our favorites!
Make Uzès your home base to discover Provence – there are so many fabulous accommodations to choose or schedule your trip around one of the many festivals or fair weekends. Certainly make sure to savor a meal or at least an apero in one of the many restaurants in Place aux Herbes, the delightful medieval plaza. If you want to jump ahead to the best restaurants in Uzès you can do so via the table of contents below.
For the wine enthusiast, be sure to look for wines from the AOC Duché d’Uzès (part of the Côtes du Rhône wine region). Or better yet, learn to blend your own wine at a nearby vineyard! Settle in and get salivating as we take you on a delicious journey through the best restaurants in Uzès that we’ve personally sampled.
Before we get to the main course, consider planning a day-trip to nearby Goudargues, the Little Venice of the Gard, or some wine experiences in Avignon.

Breakfast 🥐 Petit Déjeuner
For breakfast, if your accommodation doesn’t include breakfast, make your way to one of the cafès or restaurants in Uzès’ Place aux Herbes. Undoubtedly, many will serve petit dejeuner: croissants, pain au chocolate or tartines (toasted baguettes with butter and jam.) Un café is an espresso. A café au lait, is more like a latté, sometimes presented in separate pitchers with coffee in one and steamed milk in the other. Though, in the afternoon, I prefer une noisette, an espresso with a drop of steamed milk.
Also visit La Fougasse d’Uzès (below) or la Fille des Vignes for breakfast options.
However, if you are booking accommodations in town, and there is a breakfast option, I would suggest adding that especially if you like a heartier breakfast.
Family-Friendly Choices
Three restaurant choices we’ve sampled to please the belly and the travel budget!
#1 La Pizza du Duché (14-16, Rue Jacques d’Uzès, 30700 Uzès)
€ · Wood Fired Pizza & more
Located on a main pedestrian street, with outdoor dining, there’s a mozzarella cheese bar to build your pizza Uzès-style. They also offer salads, pasta, charcuterie plates, and more. We like to order the Uzètienne pizza for her and the Napolitaine for him. Also find beer, wines (including AOC Domaine Malaïgues Bio), and other alcoholic beverage options.
#2 La Fougasse d’Uzès (10 Rue Jacques d’Uzès, 30700 Uzès)
€ · Savory pastries + more
No visit to Uzès is complete without trying the fougasse, a crispy flatbread with delicious savory flavors. (I love this snack so much, I wrote this homage.) Our favorites are the lardons (crispy pork bits) or the olive version. Honestly, these delicious treats rarely make it home. They also serve delicious pastries like croissants, a hot dog in a pastry that’s perfect for hangry kids, salads and drinks (last time we checked, available from a refrigerator). Also, It gets very busy on market days.
Open Mon – Saturday, find hours and specials on Facebook.
#3 Istanbul Kebabs Uzès (8 Bd Charles Gide)
€ · Mediterranean
If you’re looking for something quick or easy to take to your hotel room, get a kebab! We’ve seen long lines for this quick spot, located on the left side of the ring road entering town, before reaching City Hall (Hôtel de Ville). Try the Merguez Frites – merguez is a spicy lamb sausage originating from the North African countries of Morocco, Libya, and Tunisia.
Budget-Conscious Bites
For an affordable table-service experience, here are our next favorite two restaurants in Uzès. Both are situated in the plaza on the outer ring road, near the Tourism office, offering easy access and accessibility as well as shade on a hot day. A great place to people-watch outside the bustle of busy market days.
#4 Crêperie La Bolée (1 bis Place Albert 1er, 30700 Uzès)
€€ · Crepes, Ice Cream
Breton-style crêpes and cider – what’s not to love? While not a local Provençal dish, crêpes are universally loved in France. You may be familiar with the sweet dessert version, but there’s also a savory version called galettes made from buckwheat, which are more suitable for lunch or dinner. We stopped here last summer with family – I had the crêpe Norvegienne (salmon with crème fraîche). The staff was friendly and accommodating to our group of five. There are also different types of cider; doux is sweet and if you’d like something less so, go with demi-sec. Also, they offer fantastic ice cream desserts like Le Colonel, lemon sorbet with vodka, a favorite of my belle-mere’s.
Last time we checked, it was open Monday through Saturday, for lunch and dinner
#5 La Fille des Vignes (18 Pl. Albert 1er, 30700 Uzès)
€€ · Cafe & Brasserie
The restaurant is under new ownership by Christelle, who was the manager for four years before she took ownership. Since, then the menu has been updated beyond the “classics” like steak and fries or hamburgers. Try their expanded range of tartines (open-faced sandwiches) for lunch or breakfast – and they have bacon and eggs on the menu – yay! And for those who adores a good breakfast, they’ve added a brunch on Sunday from 10am – 3pm. I CANNOT WAIT to try this. Of course, dinner is also served.
It is less crowded than restaurants in the center during market days and offers a great view, from the shaded plaza, beneath the leafy plane trees.
On market days, during the lunch hour, a meal order is expected. Later in the day or during the off-season, it’s the perfect place to enjoy un café.
The last time we visited, it was open daily. We recommend making a reservation during market days in summer. As their website is under construction, we suggest dropping by or calling (+33 (0)4 66 04 17 46). Also, they are active on Facebook and share their new menu items and updates.
Our Favorite Place Aux Herbes Restaurant
#6 Les Terroirs (5 Pl. aux Herbes, 30700 Uzès)
€€ · Locally-inspired food + gourmet groceries
This is one of our favorite places to relax after shopping at the market as it is located right on the Place aux Herbes with an excellent view of the basket seller (vendeur de pannier). There’s also a small epicerie inside with excellent gourmet products such as olive oils, terrines, wines, pasta and more. Reservations are recommended in high season as it’s very popular with foodies. The food is a mix of small, Provençal plates to more prepared dishes such as smoked duck and beef or salmon carpaccio. For lunch, we usually order a quiche or the Çévenol platter (charcuterie).
One of the best restaurants in Uzès’ Place aux Herbes, open Monday through Sunday, it offers an excellent location, a great wine list, and menu options for all including vegan.
Check out their website to make reservations or enjoy this lovely timelapse video of the store and the patio being set out.
Indulge! Best Fine Dining Restaurants In Uzès For Gourmand Experiences
Uzès has long been recognized by the French for its gourmet food scene. A “Ville Patrimoine Gourmand,” it is also a stop on the Vallée de la Gastronomie circuit.
Michelin, one of the French guides that bestows “stars” and recognition on excellent restaurants, has done such for La Table d’Uzès and Le Comptoir du 7. Other exceptional restaurants listed here push culinary boundaries. Prepare for innovative menus, impeccable service, and unforgettable gastronomic journeys.
And again, keep your eye out for the Duchè d’Uzès AOC wines on their wine lists.
A Nibble Below Michelin
These restaurants don’t carry the stars (yet) but they are worthy contenders.
#7 Le Bec à Vin (6, rue entres les Tours, 30700 Uzès)
€€€ · International/French, locally-inspired food
Located in an 11th-century building, this wine-forward restaurant features fine dining with elevated traditional cuisine features a seasonal menu using local ingredients. A two-time awardee of the ‘Top 100’ from Terre de Vins magazine, they feature an elegant truffle menu during the season (January).
Open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner, there is indoor and outdoor seating, contact them for a reservation or inquire about accessibility as there are some stairs in the interior.
Fun Fact: le bec à vin is a wine spout.
Insider Tip: As you wend your way through the medieval streets to reach this restaurant located on Rue Entre les Tours (street between two towers), look for La Rue de L’Épée, which runs parallel. It is named that way because it was the area where chevaliers had their sword fights! In the U.S., we know the épée as the thin, flexible sword used for fencing. I learned that on a tour.
#8 Midi à l’Ombre (9 Rue Xavier Sigalon, 30700 Uzès)
€€€ · Modern Cuisine
Excellent modern and creative cuisine that is almost as interesting as the La Table d’Uzès and less
expensive. Our favorite selections are foie gras ice cream, duck carpaccio with mushrooms, fish provençal with ratatouille, lamb with chorizo, and beef cheeks with chocolate sauce.
Located outside the ring road, they offer a weekly menu and a more local experience. With a walled-in outdoor patio and AC for indoors it’s an excellent spot to savor a long meal during the height of summer.
Hours, menu, and reservations can be found on their website.
⭐ Restaurant of Uzès Michelin-rated & Michelin Guide - Gastronomic Experiences
For discerning palates seeking the pinnacle of culinary artistry, Uzès boasts two Michelin-recognized restaurants, each offering an unforgettable gastronomic journey. One is in the Guide and the other boasts une etoile, a star ⭐.
#9 Le Comptoir du 7 - Uzès (7 boulevard Charles-Gide, 30700 Uzès)
€€€· Modern Cuisine, Fresh Ingredients
This Guide-recognized restaurant is located on the ring road as you enter town, in an old tunnel that was once used by horse-drawn carriages. If you’re not looking for it, you might not happily discover it just by walking by – although as a TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Award resto, plenty of folks are finding it! It has great contemporary food based on fresh produce and a good selection of seafood choices. My husband’s favorites are the eggplants with orange segments and the grilled, stuffed calamari (calamari farcis).
With its hip decor, vegetarian menus, and accessibility for wheelchairs, it’s definitely one to try!
# 10 La Table d'Uzès ⭐ (18 rue du Docteur-Blanchard, 30700 Uzès)
€€€€ · Modern Cuisine
This is the best known restaurant in Uzès. Originally located in the Relais & Chateaux La Maison D’Uzès, a boutique hotel created in the 18th century private home, it has moved into a larger space around the corder. The restaurant is sophisticated but not snobby. Two elegant patios plus two rooms inside are well decorated making for a memorable celebratory meal and a splurge-worthy experience. The food, overseen by Chef Christophe Ducros, is exquisite, creative, and south of France-inspired. Service is excellent and it feels intimate and personalized. Phil’s favorite selection is the bourride (sort of a bouillabaisse) with a mix of fish cooked in a delicious broth. I enjoyed a memorable birthday meal here (see the dessert pic below) and so will you!
Reservations are required well in advance and we’d suggest dressing for fine dining.
🤩 Make sure to check out the hotel La Maison D’Uzès for some indulgent trip-planning.

And finally…TripAdvisor Recommends - Travellers Choice Awards 2023 Winner - TEN (#11)
#11 Ten (10 Place Dampmartin, 30700, Uzès)
€€€ – Tapas + Excellent Cocktails
This restaurant will be on our agenda when we next visit. We’ve heard a lot of good things and are thrilled the craft cocktails have made their way to our favorite town (with more than 2 ice cubes!) This review, written by a chef/food blogger/culinary adventure organizer with roots in the area is worth the read.

Final Suggestion for the Wine & Food Traveler
Looking for an even more intense wine and food pairing experience? You’ll be in wine country after all… consider booking a visit and meal at the venerable Alain Jaume winery. We love this wine experience partner, WinaList, because they work directly with the wineries and they are French. So they know. This is exceptional.

How do you say “Yummo” in French?
“miam-miam”
Beam me up, Scotty, to Uzés!
I’ll get right on that, captain 🙂

It was hard to limit myself! Thanks for reading.
I’m impressed by the great variety of food experiences in this small town. I guess that comes with France being a gastronomic center of the world. It looks like a nice place to be a “part-time local” in!
Hope you get the chance to visit and try some!
Aux Herbes looks like the best choice for us, great roundup!
Hope to see you there one day:)
This town looks divine for food. Interesting origin of the word épée
Thanks for taking a look!
This looks incredible!
This food looks amazing. I love this. I need to visit!
there’s so much to do in the area and great wine of course! Rosé all day!
I can’t wait to experience my own Uzès Culinary Adventure. What a fabulous post with so many delicious dishes to try. I always love crêpes, either sweet or savoury, but would love to try maybe the duck carpaccio. Not sure about the beef cheeks with chocolate sauce though, certainly an interesting combination.
You sound like a true crêpe connoisseur! I’m a big fan too, I’ve tried to make them at home but never the same!
So many delicious-sounding options! I am curious to learn more about the fougasse (I clicked on the links but got an error message) because it sounds interesting. I looked Uzès up on a map and now it’s on my radar for a future trip, thanks!
thanks for the heads up on the fougasse link! I’m glad you are intrigued! https://discovercotesdurhone.com/fougasse-savory-french-flatbread/
Love how this was organized! And from someone from a big wine drinking family, appreciate the wine tip. My mom and I need to visit here!
it’s a great area to explore – so many quaint villages/towns that have the Provence vibe but less touristy.
I love combining travel and tasting delicious food. It sounds perfect combining a charming French city with some delightful culinary experiences! Thank you for sharing.
I hope you can find your way there one day! Thanks for reading.
